Nordic ENVRI is a infrastructure network of Nordic Atmospheric and Earth system science

Public Summary

Research Infrastructure Network for Nordic Atmospheric and Earth System Science (Nordic ENVRI) is a network project of researchers and RI coordinators who are engaged in the planning and construction of the Europes major environmental RIs. Nordic ENVRI is funded by NordForsk (project no 69145). This project brings together Nordic research infrastructure (RI) representatives of ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System), ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds, Trace gases Research Infrastructure Network), AnaEE (Infrastructure for Analysis and Experimentation on Ecosystems) and SIOS (Svalbard Integrated Observation System) to

  1. establish and ensure deeper Nordic collaboration and participation in the RI activities;
  2. enhance the cross-RI collaboration in various topics related to data, access, services, management, and policies at the Nordic level;
  3. strengthen the Nordic participation and positions in international research infrastructures, e.g. in ESFRI/I3 projects and;
  4. strengthen a coordinated communication with Nordic and national agencies and ministries for a two-way communication on possibilities, political and societal needs.

The network project will focus on common topics, such as on RI design and planning (e.g. in co-locations of the sites), data and RI cross-usage and access management, provision of RI services, training, RI policies and strategies, and international RI collaboration. It is foreseen that the collaborative work on these listed topics will not only boost the cost-efficiency, but also have many other benefits and a high Nordic added value. The project will produce clear set of recommendations and actions for a joint implementation beyond the grant period.
